We have been without our dining room table for a month now. I think it is the one thing I am most excited about in our new house. I miss all four of us sitting down to dinner each night, just so I can see my precious family's faces, hear about their day AND make sure my kids are eating their food. Hopefully just a few more weeks and we will be in our new house having our meals together again!
I think the dinner table is a powerful thing for families. I never thought about it until we stopped sitting down for dinner every night. Standing to eat in the kitchen or eating at different times just isn't the same.
We get so busy with our day to day that stopping and sitting down to dinner and talking is exactly what we need. We teach manners at the dinner table, we pray together, with young kids we teach obedience (stay in your seat!) and usually we eat better.
Some good friends of ours told us their goal was to start reading the bible as a family every night after dinner. I love this idea! It is so simple, but can have such a huge impact! My kids are young so just a few minutes is probably all they can handle, but what a perfect habit to start when they are young.
I am so thankful for these lessons that God teaches. I am so thankful for the Dinner Table!
