Adoption Timeline

Step Up!

I just read a really really interesting article on the desperate need for children in the US to be adopted. We have 116,000 children waiting for homes in the US. In a country where we have everything we could possibly need and more.
My heart breaks for these children who are not and might not experience a mother rocking them to sleep at night, or a dad to play ball with them, or just a place to call HOME. We have too big of houses, nice cars, and endless amounts of toys and clothes in our closets. But we are still never satisfied. God has OPENED my eyes to this world of orphans. God talks about in His word that He has a special place for orphans in His heart. So as Christians shouldn't we?
Today I shared with one of my family members that we have decided to adopt and their response was "Your Crazy!"
Really?
Yes it might take my family out of our comfort zone a bit. But really, who cares, Jesus died on the cross! There are people dying every day just because they profess their love for our Lord! The least we can do is give these babies a home!
The part in the article that really got me was this:

To put this into perspective, we might compare the number of American orphans to the purported 16 million Southern Baptists who attend more than 42,000 churches nationwide. Quick math reveals that there are roughly 138 Southern Baptists for every child in the American foster care system waiting to be adopted. To say it another way, this single denomination has an enormous opportunity to eradicate the orphan crisis in America.

I am a member of a Southern Baptist Church and always have been. And honestly I have heard very very little about adoption from the churches I have attended. I know there are amazing families out there that have accepted this calling. I know some whose lives have been difficult because they obeyed God and did adopt. I think about the rewards that God has for them in Heaven for caring for these children even though it was very difficult for them.

What are YOU doing for these children? What is your church doing for these children?

My prayer is that God would continue to change my heart to be broken and passionate for the things that HE is passionate about. My prayer is that CHRISTIANS in America would step up, get uncomfortable, TRUST God and serve like they never imagined!
